Letters, 1732-1733.

Collection contains a letter from John Gibbons in Barbados to Scawen Kenrick (Aug. 10, 1733) explaining the reasons for his not having paid a debt and requesting a recommendation to Lord Howe. He described his own economic problems and the disappointment of planters at the rejection of the Bill for the Relief of His Majesty's Sugar Colonies, mentioning the resulting emigration of several planters to the northern colonies. The second letter (Feb. 20, 1733) is from Sir William Clayton to Mr. Pemberton of Barbados, enlisting his help in collecting the unpaid dowry of John Gibbons's daughter Hannah, who had married Rev. Kenrick.
